IIM - Indore Students Start Project to Insure Villagers

Indore: Indian Institute of Management - Indore (IIM-Indore) students have started a project to provide insurance cover to the families in Mhow villages. As per the outreach programme, about 15 IIM-I students will visit a village every weekend in the month of October. The visit will be a part of an annual event at the institute namely Ahvan-11, which aims at teaching the future managers how to handle their social responsibilities.

In addition, the students are also enrolling villagers of Gangliya Khedia, Malendi, Japaw Kuti, and Kodaria villages in Mhow for the insurance cover. Krishna Chaitanya, second year PGP student and cell coordinator, Ahvan, has an independent cell, Samanvay, through which they hope to reach out to families in remote rural areas to get them insured. He also added that, together, they are imagining a better India and they hope the process will revolutionize development as they know it.

Furthermore, sources have informed that this year, the under-privileged families are being insured for an annual cover of up to Rs. 30,000 for a family with maximum of five persons. The annual premium for this scheme is Rs. 450, of which the government contributes Rs. 300 for those below the poverty line. IIM-I students will contribute Rs. 50 for the first year; hence, the insured family has to pay only Rs. 100 in the first year and Rs. 150 from the second year onwards as premium.
