IIT-Delhi Extended Last Date to Apply for GATE 2012

New Delhi: Indian Institute of Technology - Delhi (IIT-Delhi) has extended the last date to apply for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2012. The last date to apply online is extended to October 21, 2011. Also, the last date for the receipt of printed version of online application at the respective zonal GATE office is extended up to October 28, 2011. Earlier, the last dates to apply were October 17, 2011 and October 24, 2011 respectively.
 
As per sources, authorities have decided to extend the last dates due to an unexpected rush of candidates to apply for GATE 2012. Sources have informed that as of 12 noon on 14 October, more than 863,000 candidates had registered online. Moreover, nearly 96,000 candidates had registered during the 24 hours on 13 October alone.
 
Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all India examination administered and conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science and seven Indian Institutes of Technology on behalf of the National Coordination Board - GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India. Candidates who qualify GATE are eligible for admission into postgraduate programmes with MHRD and some other Government scholarships/assistantships in engineering colleges/institutes.
