The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education was founded in the year 1951 under the State Legislature Act which is known as the West Bengal Secondary Education Act of 1950. The inauguration of the board took place on 3rd May 1951 by Dr K N Katju, the then Governor of West Bengal. The first Chairman of the board was Sri Apurba Kumar Chanda.
