IIT-JEE Answer Sheets to be Published Online

New Delhi: In the process of making the selection procedure more transparent, Indian Institute of Technology Joint Entrance Examination (IIT-JEE) committee has decided to publish the checked optical response sheets (ORS) of every candidate. The answer scripts will be made available on JEE’s official website: http://jee.iitm.ac.in/. The answer scripts will be made available from Saturday i.e. May 5, 2012. Through this bold step of committee, candidates will be able to see their answers and analyze the correct responses and individual scores on the JEE website. It is for the first time that the candidates will get a chance to go through their answer sheets to see if they have been evaluated properly.

IIT Delhi, which conducted the examination this year, will post the answers given by students in the exam on the website from the decided day. This facility allows students, using their roll numbers, to see the correct answers, what they had marked and their scores. While confirming the news, R K Shevgaonkar, Director, IIT Delhi, informed that students can see the answer keys from May 3, 2012 and their ORS between May 5 and May 10, 2012. However, final results will be displayed on May 18, 2012.

Explaining about the step taken, he said that the main purpose of uploading the answer sheets and answer keys is to provide transparency and give students a chance to lodge complaints. In addition, M Balakrishnan, Dean, Post Graduate Studies at IIT Delhi, said that the committee will surely deal with all complaints related to the marking of answers in the sheets. For example, say, a student has marked a circle partly and has not been given a mark for that. A committee of faculty members will analyze the student’s claim and give marks accordingly, he concluded.

As per sources, facility to submit requests for revision will close at 5 pm on May 10 after which representatives of all IITs will meet to consider the requests. The correctly evaluated responses will be updated on website by May 14, 2012. Candidates can submit requests for revision in case of any perceived error in the machine-read responses through the website by May 10, 2012. This year, over 4.79 lakh students took the test for close to 10,000 seats in 16 IITs, present across the country.
