SAU Starts Online Application for Masters and Doctorate Programme Admission

New Delhi: South Asian University (SAU), New Delhi, has started online applications for admission into masters and doctorate programmes, from this year. The decision will simplify the application procedure, for thousands of students from the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) region, as specified by the University officials. Most students of the University belong to the eight member nations of SAARC, with each country being provided with a specific quota for their students, the officials further stated.

University students have also appreciated the decision of introducing online applications. New applicants would not have to run around for the demand draft or paying any extra money for currency conversion as registration fee. Those who are not able to access internet banking, credit card or debit card, can still apply through the offline mode by downloading the application form from the University's website.

According to SAU's President G K Chadha, this is the appropriate time to initiate this move as the University is introducing PhD programme in all its departments and faculties. It is expected that more students will apply for the University programmes, after the introduction of the online application, he further added.

The University will offer admission in applied mathematics, biotechnology, computer science, development economics, international relations, and legal studies. Each of the abovementioned programmes comprises of 30 seats. However, the number of seats for Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) varies from programme to programme.

For hassle-free admission procedure, the University has decided to advance the admission by two months so that students get enough time to prepare for their travel to India (including Visa). Usually, the admission process of the University starts in the month of March. Students from SAARC countries get a special multiple entry visa called SAU visa, for admission. Those who desire to secure admission into the University's masters and PhD programmes can apply on or before February 25, 2013. The SAARC-wide entrance test for admission into the programmes will be conducted on March 24, 2013.
