GATE 2010

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering 2010, also known as GATE, date has been announced. It is an all-India examination administered and conducted in eight zones across the country by the GATE Committee comprising faculty from Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore and seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), on behalf of the National Coordinating Board-GATE, Department of Education, Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), Government of India. It is conducted for admission into the Post Graduation / PhD in Engineering / Architecture / Pharmacy courses across IITs and many other institutes in India. The overall coordination and responsibility of conducting GATE 2010 lies with Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati, designated as the Organising Institute for GATE 2010.

Cities for ONLINE Examination: Computer based ONLINE examination for papers with codes MN and TF will be conducted at the Indian Institute of Science Bangalore and seven Indian Institutes of Technology (Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee) only. According to the candidate’s first choice of examination city, he/she will be allotted the corresponding zonal administrative institute as the center.

How to Apply
Interested candidates can get the information brochure and application form against a cash payment of Rs 1000 (Rs 500 for SC/ ST/ PD) from the designated bank branches corresponding to each zone (details list of bank branches given in the website: www.iitg.ernet.in). One can get it by post from the zonal GATE offices by sending a request letter and two self-addressed slips along with a DD for the amount (mentioned below) payable at the city of the respective zonal GATE office. Application form and information brochure can also be obtained from the zonal GATE Offices after handing over Demand Draft for the appropriate amount.
 
Candidates can submit the application form in two different modes: Offline and Online
 
For OFFLINE Mode application fee:
  • General & OBC - Rs 1000
  • SC/ST/PD Rs 500
 
For ONLINE Mode application fee:
  • General & OBC - Rs 800
  • SC/ST/PD – Rs 400
 
Application Submission Process - OFFLINE MODE
 
Candidates applying for the OFFLINE MODE can get the application form and information brochure against a cash payment from the designated bank branches corresponding to each zone or from Zonal GATE Office by sending a request letter and TWO self-addressed slips along with a DD for appropriate amount. Also, from the counter from Zonal GATE Office after handing over DD for appropriate amount. Thereafter, the completely filled application form with the essential enclosures must be sent by Registered or Speed postto The Chairman, GATE of the Zone, where the candidate prefers (corresponding to the 1st Choice of Examination City) to appear for the examination, or can be handed over personally to respective Zonal GATE Office or can be handed over personally to respective Zonal GATE Office.
 
Application Submission Process - ONLINE MODE
Candidates applying for the ONLINE MODE can opt for Online Payment which is possible through HDFC bank payment gateway using MasterCard or Visa credit cards or debit cards of certain banks or Offline payment which is possible through a DD payable at Kanpur in the name of Chairman GATE, IIT Kanpur. Please obtain this prior to start of the online filling of the application. Candidates are instructed to have a digital photograph and scanned signature prior to starting the filling of application and these should be uploaded when applying Online. Otherwise they have to submit it later. Thereafter, one must follow the candidates must follow the instructions provided on the online application form filling page.
 
An application which is incomplete by not uploading the necessary documents can be completed by sending those documents by post along with a covering note that can be printed on the online site. All such documents must reach the GATE office at IIT Kanpur by November 3, 2009.
