The National Educational Testing Bureau of University Grants Commission (UGC) in New Delhi has issued the notification for the National Eligibility Test 2010, popularly known as NET. It is conducted to determine the eligibility for awarding of Junior Research Fellowships (JRF) and eligibility for Lectureship in Indian universities and colleges.

The Test will consist of three papers. All the three papers will be held on December 27, 2009 in two separate sessions as mentioned below:  
 
  • First - I Paper (100 Marks) - 1¼ Hours: (09.30 am to 10.45 am)
  • First - II Paper (100) - 1¼ Hours: (10.45 am to 12.00 Noon)
  • Second - III Paper (200) - 2½ Hours: (01.30 pm to 04.00 pm)

How to Apply
Interested candidates can apply in the in the prescribed Application Form in DUPLICATE as given in the notification (see the website: http://www.ugc.ac.in/inside/netadv/new%20Advformat_1209.pdf). Application Form may be neatly typed or photocopied on white paper (A-4 size) on one side of the paper only. The application not in the prescribed format will be rejected. Request for Application Form from UGC will not be entertained.
 
Thereafter, the candidates are requested to fill Application Form legibly and carefully in their own handwriting with ballpoint pen. Two Copies Of The Application Form Along with Admission Card, Attendance Slip And Demand Draft Should Be Sent To The Registrar Of The University From Where The Candidate Has Opted To Appear For The Test. Applications Addressed To UGC Office Will Not Be Entertained. The envelope containing the Application Form should be superscribed “UGC National Eligibility Test For Junior Research Fellowship and Eligibility For Lectureship, December, 2009”
 
The candidates must affix their recent passport size photographs from the same negative at the places indicated in the Application Form and must sign across the photograph after it is affixed so that a part of the signature spreads over the Application Form beyond the photograph. Besides, it should be duly attested by the Head of the University Department/Principal of the College/Class-I Gazetted Officer.
 
Examination Fee and Mode of Payment:
 
Examination Fee for General Candidates is Rs 450 for Other Backward Classes (OBC), the fee is Rs 225 and for SC/ST/PH/VH candidates, it is Rs 110. The fee should be paid in the form of a single crossed DD from any Government of India Bank/ Scheduled Government Bank payable at their Service Branch, New Delhi/Delhi only with six months’ validity drawn in favor of the Secretary, U.G.C., New Delhi. Fee once paid, will not be refunded under any circumstances.
 
Essential Enclosures to be Sent With the Application:
 
Candidates are instructed to send the following essential enclosures with their application:-
 
a) A crossed Bank Draft towards examination fee payable to Secretary, University Grants Commission, New Delhi. Candidates should mention their name, Subject Code and Centre Code on the reverse of the DD
b) SC/ST/Visually Handicapped/Physically Handicapped/ OBC certificates, in case applicable, duly attested by a Gazetted Officer.
c) Two self addressed unstamped envelopes of 10” X 4” size.
