Fewer Candidates Turn Up for CAT 2010 in South India

Bangalore: Nearly 2.04 lakh candidates had registered for Common Admission Test (CAT) 2010, out of which, only 1.86 lakh candidates had turned up for the test. Approximately 18000 candidates had registered for CAT 2010 and did not appear for it. Candidates belonging to Southern parts of the country showed least interest in appearing for CAT 2010.

As per sources, around 18837 candidates had registered themselves for CAT 2010 in Bangalore. Out of which, 2167 candidates did not turn up for the test. In Chennai the percentage of absentees was 10.98%. However, the percentage of absentees in other parts of India was quiet less. Speaking about Delhi, only 5.81% candidates did not appear for the test, whereas, in Mumbai the absentees percentage was 8.65.

Himanshu Rai, CAT 2010 convener told the sources that the reasons range from traffic jams to rainfall to simply having a change of heart. Day 1 of CAT on October 27, 2010, had the maximum no-shows, where 12.73% of registered candidates didn’t take the exam. Possibly because they were carrying wrong identification cards and were sent back, he added. As per sources, out of 1.86 lakh candidates who had appeared for the test, only 4548 have registered for Day 1 of the exam. However, the last day of CAT 2010 i.e. November 14, 2010, had the least absentees among the 20 testing days, sources added.
