- School of Mechanical, Materials and Energy Engineering (SMMEE) – Design & Analysis (DA) Group: Biomechanics, biomedical design, computational biology, nanotechnology, acoustics, active control, computational mechanics, design optimization, hybrid optimization, evolutionary robotics, sustainable design, product design, design research, engineering creativity, applied mechanics, numerical methods, optimal control, and engineering applications of fractional order calculus. Manufacturing & Materials (MM) Group: sustainable manufacturing, product realization, analysis of metal forming processes, and development of new forming techniques.
- Electrical Engineering - Optical Communication; Renewable Energy Systems, Power Network and Optimal Power Flows, Wind Energy Resource Assessment; Signal Processing, Medical Image Processing, Nano-Photonics and Nano-Optics, Wide Area Monitoring and Control of Power Systems, Power System Restructuring
Humanities and Social Sciences
- English Literature: Gender Studies, Modern Fiction, Postcolonial Studies. Linguistics: Language Processing, Morphology, Optimality Theory, Phonology, Psycho/Neurolinguistics, Typology.

The duly filled in application forms, should be sent along with a brief description of their research interests, to the Institute administration at the following email: drpgsr@iitrpr.ac.in. Otherwise, one can send the applications through post to PhD coordinator, Indian Institute of Technology Ropar, Nangal Road, Rupnagar - 140001, Punjab, latest by October 24, 2011. The envelopes containing application form should be superscribed with the name of the department to which one wants to apply. Note: Candidates seeking admission in PhD programme other than SMMEE department, should apply through application form A, whereas applicants seeking admission in PhD programme in SMMEE, should apply through application form B provided on the institute's website.
