Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), have issued the notification for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering 2013, also known as GATE. The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all-India examination administered and conducted in eight zones across the country, jointly by the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras, IIT Roorkee), on behalf of the National Coordinating Board-GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India. The GATE score of a candidate reflects the relative performance level of a candidate. The score is used for admissions to various post-graduate programmes (eg. ME, M Tech, direct PhD) in Indian higher education institutes with financial assistance provided by MHRD and other Government agencies. The score may also be used by Public sector units for employment screening purposes.

How to Apply
Interested candidates are required to apply / register online (only) by filling in the online application form to be made available on the zonal GATE websites of IISc and seven IITs from September 1, 2012. In order to get complete details, one can visit the following direct link: http://www.gate.iitb.ac.in/gate2013/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/GATE-2013-Brochure.pdf or http://www.gate.iitb.ac.in/gate2013/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/gate2k13poster.pdf. The application fee is Rs 1200 (for General / OBC male applicants) and Rs 600 (for SC / ST / PD male applicants). There is no application fee for female applicants. After successfully registering online, one must take printout of the same. The duly acknowledged printout of the online application along with candidate’s signature and a good quality photo affixed in the appropriate and other requisite enclosure documents (details given in the website), should be sent to the respective zonal GATE offices latest by October 8, 2012.
