IIMC Likely to Expand With Four New Branches

New Delhi: Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) is on the verge of expansion, with its four new branches being planned. Of the new branches, two are likely to be set up in Jammu & Kashmir and Mizoram, respectively. As to the rest two branches, they are being planned in southern and western India.
 
An announcement regarding the new branches was made by Mrs. Ambika Soni, Minister for Information and Broadcasting, in the 42nd Convocation function held at IIMC, New Delhi. Mrs. Soni further mentioned that these institutes would be set up in a phased manner and proposals will be firmed up soon, in consultation with the concerned agencies and the state governments. The minister also said that IIMC will soon be upgraded as an International Media University.
 
Information and Broadcasting Ministry is working out the modalities to develop IIMC into a world-class media education, training and research university. After its upgradation to an International Media University, IIMC will be able to award degrees in addition to the Post Graduate Diplomas it presently awards. Moreover, the institute will also be able to start courses at the Undergraduate and Postgraduate level and award M Phil and PhD degrees.
