IIMA to Launch RTE Resource Centre

Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) will launch Right to Education (RTE) resource centre on the campus in order to promote sustainable development of the primary education facilities in the country.

The Eklavya RTE resource centre will be launched in collaboration with IIM Ahmedabad’s Ravi J. Matthai Centre for Educational Innovation. The Centre is a joint initiative by the institute’s student-run Public Policy SIG and Prayaas – the social initiative of IIMA.

The Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act 2009 means that every child has a right to full time elementary education of satisfactory and equitable quality in a formal school. The Ekalavya Resource Centre plans to raise awareness toward children education. Professor Ankur Sarin of the Public Systems Group will serve as one of the faculty advisors for the project.

A national conference is planned by the centre to be held in November on the theme of “Inclusive Institutions in Elementary Education”. This conference will be organized jointly by IIMA’s faculty and students. RTE Pioneers, NGOs, private and public Schools, government officials, community leaders, academicians and other stakeholders in elementary education are likely to participate in the conference. The Conference will include key note addresses by academicians and government officials at different levels followed by group discussion among parents, school principals and various NGOs. The challenges faced by schools in implementation of RTE will be discussed and also innovative solutions will be discussed. 25% quotas in public schools and the problems regarding infrastructure will also be discussed.
