RTU Decisions Leads to Confusions

Jaipur: Students are likely to suffer from the lack of co-ordination between Rajasthan Technical University (RTU) and its affiliated engineering colleges, as according to an estimate of the university, the students of 2006-07, 2007-08 and 2008-09 batches are likely to complete their course with a six to one-year delay.

As per the sources, the RTU is known for taking hasty decisions. There are numerous instances regarding the fact. The university is known not to communicate with the colleges on important decisions like announcement of examination dates, revising syllabus and change in the pattern of question paper. In fact, since the university was incepted, barring a few semester exams, none were conducted as per the time table. For example, earlier it was announced the date for last semesters exam is from July 1. Students and teachers planned their vacations accordingly. However, just a week ago, they postponed the dates to July 11, causing inconvenience to the students as well as the teachers.

Colleges across the state are worried that if the trend continues, then the students would look to states like Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh in future. According to the college managements, the private universities are taking advantage of this situation. They are advising students not to take admission in RTU-affiliated colleges. Notably, more than 120 colleges including engineering and management colleges in the state are affiliated with the university. Bipin Das, Principal Secretary, Technical Education, in the mean time asked the managements of these colleges to recommend ways to get better with the functioning of RTU.
