UPTU SEE Counselling Cancelled

Lucknow: UP Technical University (UPTU) has cancelled the counselling for State Entrance Examination (SEE) 2009. Such a step was taken in the wake of the awaiting Special Leave Petition (SLP) filed by the University against a High Court order vis-a-vis reservation in private engineering colleges.

The order was issued on the basis of a petition filed by some private colleges who were for doing away with reservation. However, the University moved a SLP in the Supreme Court against the HC order. US Tomar, Registrar of UPTU, said that a Central Admission Committee (CAC) of the University, after discussing all legal formalities, decided that the counselling be cancelled till the apex court delivers a judgment on July 17. It would be after the apex court decision that the next date for counselling would be decided.

The new dates would be communicated through the website and media. A notice to this effect would be issued on July 18. The results of SEE were declared on May 31, which was to be followed by a Counselling. Over the years there has been a considerable increase in the number of candidates appearing in the SEE. Last year some 2.62 lakh students had appeared in the SEE, and their number rose to 2.72 lakh in 2009. However, the low turnout of candidates in the MCA category has been a matter of concern for the University. Despite the fact that the exam was conducted at 31 centres including six cities outside the state - Bhopal, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Roorkee, Jaipur and Delhi, only 20773 students appeared for the same.
