HRD Minister Says Chinese Soon To Be a Part of CBSE Curriculum

Beijing: On Wednesday i.e. on September 15, 2010, the Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister, Kapil Sibal, has said that Chinese language Mandarin will soon be a part of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) curriculum. Both the countries had discussed the modalities so as to provide training to Indian teachers for acquiring the language skills necessary for them to teach the Mandarin language course.

Furthermore, Mr Sibal said that China is a powerful neighbor and is budding as one of the biggest consumers of global resources. He said that the best way to introduce China in India would be by first introducing its language, Mandarin, at the primary level in schools so that children in India can develop an interest and knowledge regarding China. Moreover, he also informed that he had already spoken to the CBSE Chairman Vineet Joshi, and had received his permission to make Chinese a part of their curriculum.

As per sources, the modalities were discussed between the HRD Minister, Kapil Sibal and Education Minister of China, Yuan Guiren. Yuan Guiren gave the assurance that they would work out modalities for training Indian teachers. Mr Guiren said that the mutual programme can be worked out for training 200 teachers in Mandarin. Some people can come to China to learn the language and some can be taught in India itself through different means.

Mr Sibal also presented proposal to China to extend the sponsorship programme for exchange scholars from universities in different subjects, on lines of the full bright scholarship. He said that India would give back by sponsoring an equal number of students. The minister also visited the Peking University and had discussion with its officials on various subjects.
