NIMHANS becomes ‘Institute of National Importance’ - Declared by Union Cabinet

New Delhi: According to the official statement, the Union Cabinet has declared the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS), Bangalore as ‘an Institute of National Importance’, today i.e. October 20, 2010.
 
As per the statement, the union cabinet has accepted the proposal of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to affirm NIMHANS Bangalore as an institute of national importance. Now with that, NIMHANS can create new teaching modes along with new courses, which are required to be introduced.
 
To finalize the procedure, legislation will be brought to Parliament in this regard as the cabinet also approved the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences Bangalore Bill, 2009.
 
Now declared as an institute of national importance, NIMHANS has come at par with the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (Puducherry), All India Institute of Medical Sciences (New Delhi) and Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (Chandigarh).
