SOL Criteria Raise Faces Criticism

New Delhi: Delhi University's (DUs) School of Open Learning (SOL) decision to increase the admission criteria controversy is likely to subside.

This year, DU’s School of Open Learning has decided to raise the eligibility criteria to 40% for admission into BA and B Com courses, which is faced with criticism both from the students as well as the faculty members. Initially, mere pass was enough for a student to get enrolled into SOL. Moreover, the external cell of SOL has also been merged with the institute.

J. Khuntia, General Secretary of Academics for Action and Development, has said that it is a violation of a student's right to study as students who have attained a percentage between 33 and 39 percent in their Class 12 exams would find it not possible to gain admission.

As per sources, recently, the Delhi University Teachers' Association (DUTA) President Aditya Narayan Mishra had met with Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit to express his concerns. The CM would soon be writing to DU Vice Chancellor Deepak Pental regarding the matter.
