UGC Allows Symbiosis to Open Noida Campus

New Delhi: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has allowed Symbiosis International University to open an off-site campus in Noida to teach law. Sukhdeo Thorat, UGC Chairperson, justified the sanction. He said that they have done it as per the advice of the Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry.
 
In addition, Thorat said that he maintained that the UGC has taken care that the Noida campus fulfills the new regulations of the commission. Further, he said that they have taken an undertaking from Symbiosis that it will adhere to the recommendations of the HRD Ministry’s review committee, headed by P N Tandon.
 
As per sources, the Symbiosis Institute had been placed in the list of 44 deemed universities, by the HRD Ministry’s review committee. All the universities, in the list of deemed universities, were allotted a three-year deadline last year to fulfill the criteria needed to get the tag of deemed university.

Thorat also asserted that Symbiosis was not in the category of unfit deemed universities, but in the list of those universities, which were given a deadline of three-years to improve in order to get the status of deemed university.
