CBSE to Conduct Common Medical Entrance Test on May 13, 2012

New Delhi: Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi, will conduct its first ever common medical entrance test, National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) on May 13, 2012. NEET is the most awaited common test proposed by MCI, to select eligible candidates for admission into different medical colleges, including the private centers. The task of conducting the common test is given to CBSE by the Medical Council of India (MCI).

According to CBSE, NEET will be of three-hour duration and would consist of a single paper with 180 objective-type questions in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. Each question will carry four marks, with four options and a single correct answer. Candidates will be required to mark the answer on gradable sheet using ball-point pens only.

The Medical Council of India had, two years ago, proposed a single entrance test for around 32,000 undergraduate seats for MBBS in the country. While proposing the test, MCI has also made it clear that the common test will not in any ways alter admissions based on reservations, state quotas, or private college quotas.
