Day 1 Registers 3800 Online Applications for IIT JEE 2012

New Delhi: It’s been just one day since the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) opened their doors for enrolling engineering aspirants and picking the best of the best students. Within 24 hours from the beginning of the online registration process for Joint Entrance Examination 2012, also known as IIT JEE 2012, as many as 3800 applicants registered their candidature. The online application began on October 31, 2011 and is available on all IITs’ official websites. The examination, to be conducted on April 8, 2012, is one of the most popular national-level entrance tests for admitting students in various IITs, IT-BHU Varanasi, and ISM Dhanbad.

IIT JEE 2012 offers two modes to the applicants for registering themselves for the examination - online and offline. According to GB Reddy, Chairman, JEE Office, around 3800 students had already filled in the online application, with most of them completing the formalities as well. He also said that there were students who only got themselves registered and have not paid in the application fees. The process will not be considered complete unless the application fee is paid. He further added that IIT JEE 2012 has sketched a different plan to select candidates, wherein they’ll have to score a minimum aggregate of 35% to be listed in the common rank list, with at least 10% marks in all the three subjects.

Candidates, belonging to OBC and SC/ST categories, will be provided a 10% relaxation in the minimum marks, in order to crack the IIT JEE 2012 rank list. Besides, certain other changes have also been formulated, such as permitted the candidates to circle the answers with a pen instead of pencil. This year, aspirants will be competing for about 7,000 seats in 15 IITs. Online registrations are open from October 31, 2011 to December 10, 2011, while candidates can apply through the offline mode (i.e. physical sale of application forms) from November 11, 2011 to December 15, 2011.
