Delhi Govt to Increase 450 more MBBS Seats in Next Two Years

New Delhi: In the next two years, the Delhi government has decided to increase around 450 more MBBS seats. Three Government hospitals namely Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital (DDU), Ambedkar Hospital and an upcoming hospital in Dwarka, will soon get a medical college each with a capacity of about 150 seats.
 
While discussing about the same, Dr A K Walia, State Health Minister said that the committee have already started working on the project of expansion of seats. The most important task of the initiative is identifying land, however, that portion is already being taken care of. He also added that these three medical colleges will definitely help existing colleges to share the burden to certain extent.
 
Furthermore, he informed that the Ministry of Health is already in the process of making a society comprising its officials, which will monitor everything. The monitoring ranges from the construction to the operation of these colleges. Besides, he mentioned that the society will also be responsible for recruiting staff, which is a primary problem of autonomous bodies.

Sources have informed that, in Budget 2011, Delhi government had allotted Rs 1,801 crore to upgrade State's Health Infrastructure. Of the total, an amount of Rs 167 crore has been decided to be spent on building aforesaid new hospitals.
