Haryana Government to Set Up Medical College in the Memory of Astronaut Kalpana Chawla

Chandigarh: On Friday i.e. January 7, 2011, Haryana Government has announced to set up a medical college in the memory of astronaut Kalpana Chawla. As per sources, the medical college will be set up in Karnal, the home town of Kalpana Chawla. A spokesperson of Haryana government said that the medical college to be set up over an area of 35 acres would have a 50-seat college upgradeable to 100 seats.
 
Further, the spokesperson told that the college will also have a 400 bedded hospital upgradeable to 500 beds along with existing Civil Hospital located in Karnal. The spokesperson also informed that work on the medical college campus will commence this year. As per sources, the proposed college will also have an OPD block and other medical facilities. Apart from this, the college will also provide accommodation for students, nurses, paramedical staff and doctors.
 
The Haryana government spokesperson also said that an Expression of Interest had been invited from the reputed firms, who have executed large projects of Rs 2 billion (Rs 200 crore) and above, for undertaking the work of designing and construction of the buildings of the medical college.
