IIT Delhi Students Organize Cycle Rally

New Delhi: About 100 students from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi on Sunday i.e. on January 30, 2011 took out a cycle rally in order to encourage people to pedal short distances and help reducing pollution.

As per sources, the rally was organized as a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his 63rd death anniversary and was organized in association with Firefox Bikes.  It started from Mehrauli Gate of the IIT Delhi and reached Raj Ghat around 9.00 am.

Shiv Inder Singh, Managing Director, Firefox Bikes, has said that the whole world knows Gandhiji as a political leader and a revolutionary of an extraordinary type. He also said that but very few people know that he was an environmentalist too.

According to IIT Delhi, the rally was an effort to rediscover Gandhi's environmental principles that are more relevant today, when the threat of climate change is looming large, natural resources are fast depleting and cutting carbon footprints is so important.
