IITs Entry at 35% Cut-Off Marks This Year

New Delhi: The Joint Admission Board (JAB) of Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) will set a minimum aggregate of 35% cut-off marks for admissions into the IITs, this year. The decision was taken in a meeting held recently on Tuesday i.e.on October 18, 2011.

As per sources, candidates aspiring to crack JEE 2012 will be required to score at least 10% marks in each of the three subjects. Moreover, they will also need to obtain a minimum aggregate of 35% to figure on the common rank list for seeking admissions into the IITs.

Professor GB Reddy, organizing chairman, JEE 2012 said that in the past years, the minimum aggregate marks required to qualify in JEE varied from year to year. Earlier, it was calculated on the basis of average performance of candidates in the examination; therefore, they did not know the qualifying marks, he added.

Furthermore, he justified that the decision of fixing a cut-off will make the system more transparent while making it easier to set goals for the candidates in the examination. Moreover, this change would serve as an advantage for students as many students are not equally good in all subjects. He added that the new cut-off % set for admissions will give them the chance to work towards scoring at least 10% in the subject they are weak at and then work on their strengths.
