Indian Universities Witness Drop Down in Global Ranking

New Delhi: This year, Indian Universities have witnessed a dropped down in prestigious Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) global ranking. This year, not even a single Indian University has been ranked among the top 200.
 
In the ranking list at 218th position, the Indian Institute of Technology-Delhi (IIT-Delhi) marks the first entry for India. Next, it is IIT-Bombay at 225th position. IIT-Madras follows at 281st position. Last year, IIT-Bombay was at 187, IIT-Delhi at 202 and IIT-Madras at 262.
 
The report was released on Monday i.e. on September 5, 2011. The list has been topped by Britain's Cambridge University, followed by Harvard University of the US. However, in separate subject wise category, the English department of Delhi's Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has secured the 51st rank in the category of English language and literature.
 
Moreover, in the QS Asian ranking, the position of IIT-Kanpur, IIT-D, IIT-M, IIT-Kharagpur and IIT-Roorkee has gone up, IIT-Bombay has dropped down by two places. Besides, the Asia ranking has been topped by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. At 36th place, IIT-Kanpur which was ranked 37th last year climbed up by one position, and becomes the top Indian university in this category.
