NIT Silchar to Offer Medical Insurance Facility To Its Students

Silchar: The authorities of National Institute of Technology (NIT) Silchar have decided to offer medical insurance coverage facility to all its students. In addition, emergency and basic medicines will be available with the resident doctors, now onwards.

On Saturday i.e. on January 22, 2011, P K Bose, director-in-charge of NIT Silchar, has made the announcement that the institute will purchase a new medical van-cum-ambulance and the ambulance that now serves emergency purpose will also be repaired as soon as possible. As per sources, the director's announcements came after a third semester girl committed suicide on January 3 and the student community broke into protests gheraoing the director on January 18 and 19.

Furthermore, Mr Bose has also announced that a committee will be formed comprising 10 faculty and 10 student members of either gender with representatives from all semesters to address various problems. He added that the committee will sit once in a month to discuss various issues and will recommend their decisions to the director for implementation. The names of students' representative will be forwarded by the Gymkhana union body to the Director. Also, in response to the demand for re-examination after 15 days of declaration of results, it was decided that the committee will refer to the regulations of other NITs including NIT, Trichi and recommendations shall be made thereafter keeping in mind the local conditions.
