Mumbai: Sikkim Manipal University (SMU), a distance education institution, has won many awards. As per sources, the awards have been conferred by DNA and Star media groups. The awards, which are bagged by SMU, include the award of Best B-school. This award has been given for the use of Technology in Providing Management Education in Distance Education, sources added. Further, sources informed that the university has also received an award for best Management Education in Distance Education.
This award was granted by the Star News, sources added. A Thimmiya, Senior Vice-Principal, Distributed Learning, Manipal Education said that there is a need for incorporating specific knowledge and skill components in traditional degrees so that the student can position himself best to grab the new opportunities being created in the economy. The Vice-Principal also spoke about EduNxt.
Thimmiya told the sources that EduNxt, a next generation learning system, will allow students enrolled with SMU-DE programmes to access their course syllabus any time via internet. Thimmiya added that their EduNxt technology platform has been a significant initiative in this effort, and they have been quite successful in ensuring that students have access to the latest industry-specific curriculum and a technology that gives new meaning to Education for All.
