St. Stephens to Enroll Students Not On Basis Class 10 Scores

New Delhi: This year, St. Stephen's College announces that it will enroll students for its undergraduate courses not on the basis of the marks they secure in class 10. In case of candidates who wish to seek admission to the college under the sports quota must have played at the state, national or international level or represented their school at a zonal level and secured the first or second position.

As per sources, K.M. Matthew, tutor for admissions to the college said that they will not consider the candidates performance in class 10 for admissions. One of the major reasons behind such a decision is publicizing the news that the class 10 boards have been made optional and they will only be grade-based. He added that students apply for the college from various foreign boards which have different marking pattern. He also informed that in an attempt to keep the admission process simple, they are introducing the new criteria of not giving 10% weightage to class 10 scores this year. Instead, 85% weightage will be given to class 12 marks and 15% to interviews.

St. Stephen's Collegewill enroll over 400 students in its 10 undergraduate courses in the upcoming session. Also, the reforms that had been introduced last year remain unchanged. These include keeping the merit differential of 15% between any reserved category and the general category. The merit differential in the years 2008 and 2009 had been as high as 35% in several categories. The admission procedure at the college is is going to commence from May 25. Last date for submission of application forms will be June 13. Interviews for shortlisted candidates will take place from June 20 to July 4, and a tentative schedule for the interviews is available on the college's website.
