University Grants Commission (UGC) and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), has taken action against various fake educational institutions/Universities.

UGC and AICTE Keeps Check on Fake Educational Institutions

New Delhi: University Grants Commission (UGC) and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), have jointly taken action against various fake educational institutions, running successfully across the country.The news about the action was confirmed by D. Purandeswari, the Minister of State for Human Resource Development during Lok Sabha session, recently.
 
As per the sources, UGC has identified 21 universities/institutions as fake, operational in various parts of the country that are violating the UGC Act, 1956. During the check, the council found 8 fake institutions in Uttar Pradesh, 6 in Delhi and 1 each in Bihar, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.
 
In addition, AICTE has identified a total of 348 institutions that are violating the AICTE Regulation dated 6th January, 2005 and running technical and management courses/programmes without approval. During the investigation, AICTE found 75 each in Delhi and Maharashtra, 52 in Andhra Pradesh, 34 in West Bengal, 30 in Uttar Pradesh, 26 in Karnataka, 17 in Haryana, 14 in Tamil Nadu, 9 in Chandigarh, 4 in Gujarat, 2 each in Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan and Goa and 1 each in Uttrakhand and Kerala.
 

Sources said that the UGC has already filed legal petition in various courts against 6 of the fake universities identified, during the investigation. Show-cause notices have also been issued by the UGC to some of the fake universities/institutions and by the AICTE to unapproved institutions for closure of their programmes. State Governments have also initiated legal action against such fake universities.
