Manipal University To Launch 12 New Courses

Manipal: Manipal University, Karnataka, will introduce 12 new courses in its curriculum from the upcoming academic year 2013. Presently, the University has around 320 courses in 18 streams on offer.

Confirming the news, GK Prabhu, Registrar, Manipal University, said that the University would conduct online entrance tests (OET) for all its courses, including MBBS, B Tech and B Pharm. The entrance tests will be conducted from April 15 to May 15, 2013. In addition, the number of test centres has also been increased from 30 to 50 this year, he added.

However, he further informed that there is no clarity in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for admission to medical courses introduced by the Union government. To protest against the move, several deemed universities have moved to court; therefore, the University officials have also moved to court. If the Supreme Court directs the University to admit students through NEET, it will comply to the orders. However, till then, the University will conduct the online entrance tests as per the prescribed schedule.

According to sources, this year, the University has added a new feature to the entrance test. As per the new feature, candidates will be allowed to take a second test, if they are not satisfied with their performance in the first attempt. However, the better score will be considered for the merit list.
