Over Three Lakh Students to Sit for MHT-CET 2012

Mumbai: More than three lakh aspirants are set to appear for Maharashtra Common Entrance Test 2012, also known as MHT-CET. The MHT-CET 2012 is scheduled to be conducted on May 10, 2012 at 867 exam centres all across the state of Maharashtra.

As per sources, 55,567 candidates will sit for MHT-CET to join a health science course, whereas around 1.20 lakh students will take the test to sign up for engineering programme which is less than last year's 1.49 lakh. In addition, of the total 3.38 lakh students to appear for the exam this year, the maximum number-1.63 lakh- will sit for all the papers - physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics.

While discussing the same, Pravin Shingare, Director of the Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER), said that DMER will see a large number of students taking all the papers because competition in medicine is tough. Moreover, many of the students cannot afford a private medical college, therefore, they take the exam for both engineering and medicine, he added. Shingare also informed that this year, the students can be allowed to take question paper and their answer sheets along.

DMER, Government of Maharashtra, shall conduct this single combined Maharashtra Common Entrance Test 2012 (MHT-CET) for all Health Sciences, Engineering and Pharmacy degree courses, to be offered in the ensuing academic session 2012-13. The programmes will be conducted in government / government aided colleges and few unaided private colleges who accept MHT-CET scores.
