AICTE Decides to Conduct Additional CMAT in May 2013

New Delhi: All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has decided to hold an additional Common Management Admission Test (CMAT) in May, this year i.e. 2013. AICTE is the statutory body and a national-level council for technical education, under Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development of India.

Explaining more about the decision, SS Mantha, Chairman, AICTE, said that this one-off CMAT in May is specifically being conducted for MBA (Master of Business Administration) aspirants from Karnataka, Kerala and Uttar Pradesh (UP), who had not been able to apply early enough for CMAT February 2013. As per him the reason for the delay was the fact that these three states ascribed to AICTE, quite late.

Mantha further added, that the test would be conducted somewhere around mid of May for students of the said states, as per the requests placed by the State governments. Considering their requests, during a recent meeting, the council came up with the decision of giving students of these states another chance to write the CMAT, he informed.

However, the AICTE chairman also clarified that the proposed CMAT (to be held in May) will be an additional test, not a regular third test, which is being conducted to give those students who were not able to apply for either CMAT-1 or CMAT-2. Further details regarding the dates and centres for CMAT in May will be announced soon, as these things are yet to be finalized, he added.

CMAT (Common Management Admission Test) is the computer based national level common entrance test, conducted by the AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education) for admissions to Post Graduate programmes, in management offered by AICTE approved management institutes. The AICTE conducts CMAT twice a year - once in February (CMAT 2) and then again in September (CMAT 1). The CMAT February 2013 is scheduled to be held from February 21-25.
