New Delhi: Human Resource Department (HRD) Ministry has announced the launch of a helpline and website for ragging victims to lodge their complaints. The website would start functioning before June 15, 2009. It has come as a great relief for all the students just out of the school and eager to join college.
A special unit would be set up by the ministry for investigating and handling the complaints of the ragging victims. The helpline is launched after continuous demands by the Education Consultants of India in alliance with NGOs working against the nuisance of ragging. Moreover, the government is also planning to adopt an independent investigative mechanism to protect the ragging victims from any sort of harassment by educational institutes for lodging their complaints. According to a statement of University Grants Commission (UGC) official, it was noticed that action was taken against several students for lodging complaints against ragging. In a meeting scheduled to be conducted on May 18, UGC is expected to finalize its guidelines for anti-ragging.
