New Delhi: It is time of celebration for the Indian students who wish to go abroad for acquiring a postgraduate degree after doing their MBBS in India. The Union Government has given its nod to foreign PG Medical Degrees.
The government has issued a notification under the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956, recognising postgraduate medical degrees granted by institutions in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the UK and the US.
As per the sources, shortage of medical practitioners in India prompted the government to take this decision. However, the degrees will be recognised only when they are considered valid for enrolment of medical practitioners in the countries here they are awarded.
Thanks to this decision of the Government, those holding them need not appear in the screening test held by the Medical Council of India (MCI). Now, the students who have attained their postgraduate medical degree in foreign countries, can just return and start practicing.
Now that the government has taken the decision, the recognition by the Medical Council of India (MCI) is expected. The Government had consulted the MCI which reaching the decision and accepted some of the suggestions recommended by it.
