Delhi University CATE - Confusion In Colleges

New Delhi: There is a lot of confusion related to CATE in DU. College which had previously declared that admissions of BA (honours) English will be based on CATE, are getting applications from candidates who have not even appeared in the exam. According to the DU officials almost 50 students came for admission to BA (Honours) English at Shivaji College without clearing or even appearing in CATE. Therefore, left out with no other way, college has to turn away these candidates.

Authorities of DU says that one reason for this chaos can be the low cut-offs declared on the basis of CATE score by DU Colleges. According to them the cut offs for English (honours) in DU Colleges are lower in comparison to other colleges. This may be the reason that candidates with low scores are running to these colleges, without even sitting for the CATE, with the hope of getting admission in DU Colleges.

Authorities also cleared the point saying that the cut-offs in these colleges are low because it is based on the combined marks in CATE and class XII. It is really strange that regardless of publicity about CATE through news papers, media and the open days at DU, students are still confused about the procedure. It has also been declared by the authorities that Hindu, IP College for Women and Kamala Nehru College have filled their seats in BA (honours) English and will not come out with a third cut-off list.
