Mumbai: The third merit list for admission into FYJC (First Year Junior College) in Mumbai has been released on Monday, August 3, 2009. Initially, the list was to be declared on Saturday evening, but it got delayed by two days. Admissions will begin on Monday only, between noon and 4 pm, and continue till Tuesday. On Wednesday, the government hopes to release a list of all the vacant seats at colleges across the city.
As per the sources, the reason behind the delay in releasing third list was the inability of Education Department was to collate and update the admission status of over 90,000 of the 1.4 lakh students, who were allotted a seat in the second merit list. The department was yet to arrive at the total number of vacancies after the second merit list. The education department had received 2,200 grievances after the second merit list and 2,500 after the first.
This year, for the first time, the Education Department has offered ATKT lifeline. According to this new system, the students who have failed in two subjects in the SSC exam will still be promoted to junior colleges; provided they clear the ATKT exams later in the year. Admissions for ATKT will be done offline.
