Government Likely to Introduce Three New Universities for Minorities

New Delhi: In the year 2009, after allotting a fund of Rs 25 crore for two more campuses of the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), the government is planning to set up three more universities for the country's minorities. As per sources, the three new universities are likely to be set up in Mysore (Karnataka), Kishanganj (Bihar) and Ajmer (Rajasthan).

According to an official, fifty percent of the seats in these universities will be reserved for minority students, to make them more competitive in the job market. To be set up on the land owned by Waqf boards, these universities will provide education in all modern subjects, along with theological teaching. The draft regarding the same has been prepared, and soon, it will be sent to the Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD). These new universities are being establishedprimarily for the students of minority communities, with an aim of providing them better higher education.
