New Delhi: Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Kapil Sibal set up a committee on October 21, 2009 (Wednesday),consisting of three National Institutes of Technology (NIT) Directors, to scrutinize the current system of conducting All India Engineering Entrance Exam (AIEEE).
The committee would look into the prospect of making AIEEE online, in addition to the regular pen and paper test being conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) at present. Apart from that, the Committee would also look into the structure of the entrance exam and also suggest as to how much weightage could be given to Class XII exam results.
As per sources, the committee, comprising of the directors of Allahabad, Calicut and Agartala NITs, will submit its report by January 2010 and would also look at the problem of seats staying vacant across NITs, despite conducting a number of rounds of counseling.
