IIT Kanpur Soon to Start FM Radio Station

Kanpur: An FM radio station is going to start within the premises of India Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT-Kanpur), in the near future. IIT-K has also got the approval of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting for the project. With this, IIT-K will be the first institute in the league of IITs to have a FM radio station operating from within its campus.
 
Prof. Dhande, Director IIT-K, said that decision regarding the land for FM station has been taken and instruments worth Rs 22 lakh have also been purchased. He also added that all formalities to start the FM station have been completed. The FM station in IIT-K will follow the model of America's National Public Radio (NPR). It will broadcast scientific programmes and classical music. Apart from that, cultural programmes will also be aired by the upcoming FM radio station.
 
The phone-in programme will be the most important feature of the IIT-K FM station, in which students will be provided the facility of putting up their queries related to science, to the professors of the college. The entire responsibility of putting the whole project into operation has been assigned to a four member committee, headed by Prof. Sanjay Kasalkar, Registrar of IIT-K.
