IIT Patna PhD Programmes From July

Patna: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Patna, which has been newly set up in Bihar city will start its doctoral programmes from July. IIT Patna will become the first among the eight new IITs set up last year to start Ph D programmes.
 
Last year the Union HRD ministry announced opening up of eight new IITs instead of merely three which were supposed to open this year in the state of Andhra Pradesh, Bihar and Rajasthan. The new IITs had been approved in the state of Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Orissa, Gujarat, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. Among them, six would start their academic sessions from July 23, while the other two - approved in Himachal Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh are expected to start functioning from the 2009-10 academic year.
 
IIT Bihar will offers Ph D programmes in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Humanities and Social Sciences. The program will commence with an initial annual intake of 30 students. Moreover, the interviews of the applicants are underway for admission into the PhD programme. Presently, the IIT is functioning from a polytechnic building as a temporary campus. The process of land acquisition for a permanent campus is in progress.
