Joint Counselling Likely to Commence to Fill Vacant Engineering Seats

New Delhi: Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and other premier engineering colleges across the country have started informal discussion for initiating common counselling. The joint counseling session is proposed, in order to make sure that engineering seats don't fall vacant, after the selection procedure is over.

IITs take students through Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) and others through an All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE). The process of allotting seats to students is popularly known as counselling in engineering colleges. IIT - Director said that the Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry is keen on the proposal of conducting common counselling. There was some informal discussion as well. He further added that it does not mean that JEE and AIEEE will merge. It's all about keeping the counselling a single affair to reduce seats going vacant.

Further, it is believed that the effort to conduct a joint counselling will solve the problem of a number of seats going vacant, after the selection procedure is over. Many students seek admission to more than one institute, as they sit through separate counseling, in quest of the best place.
