Bangalore: More than 1, 20,000 candidates are expected to take the Common Entrance Test (CET) 2009 scheduled to be conducted on May 6, 7 and 8 across the state. As per the records last year, about 1.16 lakh students had appeared for the test. This year the heat is on professional medical and engineering seat aspirants.
With CET approaching, many parents and students have contacted the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) to clear their doubts about several issues. According to S P Kulkarni, KEA’s Administrative Officer, about a total of 275 students experienced delays in getting their hall tickets as they had put their right thumb impressions on the application form, when they were required to put their left thumb impression. Also, most students failed to pick up their hall tickets from their respective colleges. Another possibility is that the students may not have signed their application forms or put their signature on the form.
He further mentioned that, engineering is still the first preference for many students. There are 1,800 seats available for medicine and 33,000 seats for engineering, even those students who don’t get a medical seat have to then settle for a seat in engineering. This year a drastic drop is noticed in the demand for computer engineering due to the prevailing downturn in the economy.
