Marks Threshold for GUJCET Aspirants

Ahmedabad: Gujarat State Government has framed new rules regarding minimum marks needed in Gujarat Common Entrance Test (GujCET). Now the students appearing in GujCET, are required to mandatorily score at least 50% marks to qualify for medical and dental courses. Further, the students applying for such admissions should also have scored 50% marks in board examinations and GujCET to fulfill the eligibility criteria.

The new decision is likely to affect 22000 students appearing for GujCET. The announcement is made just a day before GujCET exam, giving a shock to the aspirants. This new rule is also applicable for the management quota seats, which amounts to 25%. However, the new rule is not applicable on engineering and pharmacy courses.

The decision to change the eligibility criteria was taken after the Medical Council of India and Dental Council of India objected over 10 admissions provided by the state in medical and dental for the academic year 2008-09.The reason of objection cited is that the council guidelines clearly state that a student is eligible for admission only if he obtains 50% marks in the entrance exams. As per the new rule, it is decided by the State Government that ratio of marks will be 40:60 for GujCET and boards respectively. Earlier, the ratio was 21% GujCET marks and 79% board marks.
