Caught in between the adverse economic recession globally, not a single student of Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIM-C) got foreign placement this year.
According to a statement of IIM Calcutta, the global nature of the recession got reflected when there were no foreign placements for their students. As per the records, last year six of its students got international jobs with an average annual pay of $120,750, while the highest offer came at $200,000 per year. The statement also mentioned that last year there was a major drop in the domestic salary falling to Rs 35 from 45 lakh. This year witnessed an average drop of 10 percent to Rs 18 lakh from Rs 20 lakh.
About 53 per cent of the jobs last year were in the IT and IT enabled services (ITeS) sector. Whereas, in 2009, IT and ITeS sector accounted for only 22 percent job offers, while the other sectors such as sales and marketing accounted for 22 per cent. McKinsey and Co, Deloitte and IBM Consulting in the consultancy sector, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Tech Mahindra from the IT industry and Avaya and Tata Teleservices from the telecom sphere are among those companies that visited the IIM-C campus for placement.
