Over 10,000 Students Clear IIT JEE 2009

New Delhi: More than 10,000 candidates have cleared the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) 2009, as per the result announced on May 25, 2009. The exam was conducted for admission to undergraduate courses in 15 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) across India.
 
Total of 1,048 girls and 8,987 boys among the 10,035 candidates have been declared successful to seek admission for 8,295 seats in the IITs at Bhubaneswar, Mumbai, Delhi, Gandhinagar, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Indore, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras, Mandi (Himachal Pradesh), Patna, Punjab, Rajasthan and Roorkee, according to a statement released by IIT Delhi. As per records, at least 384,977 students - 286,949 boys and 98,028 girls - appeared in JEE 2009 on April 12. This year a steep increase of 24 percent was noticed in the number of candidates appearing the entrance exam compared to last year. The counseling of successful candidates for allocation of seats would be held from June 9-16. Moreover, the course allocations would be declared on June 24.
