Reserved Category Seats Lying Vacant at IITs

New Delhi: Seats reserved for candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and other reserved category at the Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) yet to be filled. This information was communicated by D Purandeswari, Minister of State for HRD.
 
As per the sources, out of total reserved seats in B Tech programme more than 1000 seats still lying vacant. 337 seats are lying vacant in SC category out of the total 1,265 seats. Similarly, of the 659 reserved seats for ST students, 458 seats remained vacant while 207 of 251 seats could not be filled up in the category of Physically Challenged. However, in OBC category only 53 seats are lying vacant of the total of 1,546. The remaining seats in this category will be given to general category as per the decision of the Supreme Court.
 
Moreover, all these seats will be allotted to students in all reserved categories for preparatory courses and students already enrolled for such course will undergo one-year capsule course. Only after the completion of the course they will be given admission to the first year programme in the IITs.
