New Delhi: Minister of State for Human Resource Development (HRD), D. Purandeswari, has informed that the 11th Five Year Plan will incorporate the implementation of Central polytechnic scheme.

In a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha, on Friday i.e. on December 10, 2010, D Purandeswari has said that the revised Scheme of Community Development through polytechnics has been started during the Eleventh Five Year Plan to impart skill training to rural youth, women, school drop outs, scheduled castes, scheduled tribes and other weaker sections of the society and under privileged groups of the society.

Moreover, the scheme is completely centrally funded and is implemented through the existing All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) approved polytechnics. Until now, 703 existing polytechnics have been chosen for implementation of the scheme. Of the total 703 polytechnics, 532 polytechnics have already been provided financial assistance during the last two years and the remaining 171 polytechnics have been accorded administrative sanction to implement the scheme.
