Kozhikode: About 12% studentsstudying in government-aided schools of Kozhikode requires additional attention in order to perform well in the forthcoming SSLC examinations, according to a study. The study was conducted by the education committee of the district panchayat of Kozhikode. In addition, the study also revealed that students mainly belonging to SC/ST community require more attention.
K K Sivadasan, Committee Coordinator, has mentioned on the basis of study that around 93 percent of SC/ST students are lagging behind their academic performance. He added that the reason behind this is that the parents of these students are laborers and less educated some of these children do not have basic amenities at their home.
The study team suggested that the teachers must visit the homes of academically weak students in order to encourage them. Moreover, the study also recommended that the schools must be formed near to the homes of economically weak and educationally backward students. The centers must conduct counseling programmes and pay individual attention to each student so that students would be able to perform better in their SSLC examinations.
