New Delhi: On Monday i.e. October 4, 2010, Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia said that the Agriculture Universities should adopt innovative approach to reinforce agricultural research and education in the country. He said this at a meeting of Vice Chancellors of Agricultural Universities.
Dr Ahluwalia said that agricultural varsities can play an important role in this direction, by providing research-based projects with the help of industry. Further, he advised scientists working in agricultural research institutes to readjust themselves in the 12th five year plan along with the challenges of food security and climate change.
Dr Ahluwalia also underlined the need for more research on agricultural growth rate and land productivity of India. Moreover, he added that four percent agricultural growth will be needed for growing economy like India. It would require more investment in knowledge management, institutional support and diversification in agriculture, government is also willing to fund such projects.
Dr Ahluwalia also recommended a new method to fund research projects instead of funding universities.
