Aligarh: University Grants Commission (UGC) Academic Staff College of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has launched four new interdisciplinary courses for teachers. The newly launched courses are - Women's Studies (Course Coordinator Prof. Shireen Mosavi, Director, Women's Studies Center), Business Studies (Course Coordinator Prof. Pervaiz Talib, Department of Business Administration), Basic Sciences (Dr. A.H. Khan, Chairman, Department of Statistics) and orientation programme (Course Coordinator, Prof. A.R. Kidwai).
While addressing the joint inaugural session of the courses, Prof. A.R. Kidwai, Director of UGC Academic Staff College, has welcomed the participants and highlighted Sir Syed's contribution to the spread of modern education among Indians in general, and Muslims in particular. Further, he mentioned the aims and objectives of subject refresher courses and orientation programmes organized by the Academic Staff College, would be beneficial for teachers in their professional developments.
As per sources, teachers of more than 170 universities and colleges from all parts of nation have been enrolled in these courses. The courses shall conclude on February 11, while the orientation programme would end on February 19, 2010, distinguished teachers from relevant fields have been invited to act as resource persons. Moreover, the course participants would visit concerned departments of studies to gain first-hand knowledge, about the latest trends and skills and their respective subjects.
